Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, known professionally by her stage name Nicki Minaj is a Trinidadian-American singer, actress, songwriter, rapper, and model. She was born on December 8, 1982, in Saint James. Her father, Robert Maraj, who is a financial executive and a part-time gospel singer, is of Douglas descent, that is, Afro-Trinidadian mother and Indo-Trinidadian Father. Her mother, Carol Maraj, is also a gospel singer of Afro-Trinidadian descent. During Nicki's youth, her mother worked in payroll and accounting departments. In December 1987, Minaj's father burned down their house due to his addiction to alcohol and violent temper. Nicki has an elder brother called Jelani, an elder sister named Maya, a younger sister named Ming, and a younger brother named Micaiah. Growing up, Nicki Minaj and one of her siblings lived with her grandmother in Saint James. At 19, she worked with Red Lobster as a waitress but was later fired due to her lack of courtesy to customers.
She affirmed she was fired from at least 15 other jobs for the same reason of discourtesy.
Minaj revealed that she had done an abortion as a teenager in her song "All Things Go." Although the memory haunts her sometimes, she says she still stands by her decision.
She also claimed to be bisexual early in her career, she however stated in her interview that she said that to gain attention.
In late 2014, Minaj ended her relationship with longtime boyfriend Safaree Samuels, and began dating fellow rapper Meek Mill. She announced their separation in January 2017.
She began dating her childhood friend, Kenneth Petty, in 2019 and announced they were officially married on October 21.
Minaj announced on IG that she was expecting her first child, and on September 30, 2020, she gave birth to a son.
