Jarad Anthony Higgins, known by his nickname Juice Wrld was an American songwriter, rapper, and singer. He’s a central figure within the emo-rap and SoundCloud rap genre.
He was born on December 2, 1998, Jarad Higgins grew up within the South Suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Most of his childhood was spent in Calumet Park and later moved to Homewood, where he attended high school at Homewood Flossmoor highschool.
Jarad had a spiritual and reserved mother who often prevented him from being attentive to hip hop as a child. Inspired by his mother, Carmella Wallace, Higgins could already play the piano at four years of age.
Higgins, however, began taking rapping more seriously in his sophomore year of high school. Around this point, he began posting his recorded songs to SoundCloud.
He began growing as an artist in high school. His first track, “Forever,” was made public and uploaded on SoundCloud in 2015. Most of his first tracks were recorded with a cellphone.
Inspired by his affection for the late rapper Tupac Shakur, Higgins changed his anonym from JuicetheKidd to Juice Wrld, as he believed changing it would bring him more luck.
In 2017, he released “Too Much Cash,” produced by collaborator Nick Mira. During this time, Higgins took employment at a factory but was fired in a period of time.
He became a member of the collective Internet Money, and after becoming a part, he released a full–length EP on June 15, 2017. Soon, he began gaining attention from major artists like Southside, Waka Flocka Flame, G Herbo, and Lil Bibby.
He eventually signed to Grade A Productions, Lil Bibby’s record label.
In December of 2017, Jarad released “Nothings Different,” with the track “All Girls Are the Same” gaining massive popularity, breaking him out, and increasing his social media following. The track was critically acclaimed, receiving Pitchfork’s Best New Music title.
“All Girls Are the Same” and “Lucid Dreams” were his first tracks to induce entries to any Billboard Chart. The former is alleged to be the foremost streamed of all his songs, garnering over one billion streams on Spotify as of January 2020.

XXXTentacion, Higgins released and dedicated a two-song EP titled “Too Soon” on June 19.

“Wasted” was released on July 10, featuring Lil Uzi Vert; Higgins’ first single featuring a collaboration. It debuted at number 68 on the recent 100 and peaked at 67 in its second week on the chart.
Higgins announced that he was engaged on his next album on July 11, 2018, and on July 20, he announced his Wrld Domination, his first tour.
Higgins had a history of being addicted to drugs that began at an early age, and he never kept his experiences a secret. Juice Wrld took to drinking in his sixth grade in high school.
The late rapper also smoked cigarettes for a brief while before quitting in his last year of high school due to health issues.
His mother stated that he was also grappling with anxiety and depression alongside his battle with drug addiction. Weeks before his death, Higgins had agreed to attend drug rehabilitation. He died on December 8, 2019, at Oak Lawn, Illinois.
