Bob Dylan History

Many may not know this, but Bob Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman. His birth date is May 24, 1941. His birthplace is Duluth, Minnesota, but he moved to Hibbing at six.

As a child, he was fond of blues, but he got interested in rock and roll during his teenage years. During his high school days, he formed several bands. He performed covers of songs by Elvis Presley ad Little Richard.

Later, he started performing at the Ten O’Clock Scholar and joined the Dinkytown folk music circle. During this time, he adopted his stage name, “Bob Dylan.”

Dylan left college to move to New York in 1960. A year later, he began performing at various clubs around Greenwich Village. After some time, he was signed to Columbia Records and dropped his self-titled debut album in 1962.

It consisted of only two original compositions, gospel, blues, and folk. At the end of 1962, he made his first trip to the U.K. to appear in the drama Madhouse on Castle Street by Phillip Saville.

In 1963, Dylan released his second album Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. His topical songs helped him reach a newer height of success. His works were so good that they impressed famous artists like George Harrison and the Beatles.

During the 1960s, he recorded three of his most influential rock albums: Blonde on Blonde, Bringing It All Back Home, and Highway 61. He also dropped a hit single, “Like a Rolling Stone”, that expanded his commercial success.

Bob Dylan is considered an important figure in popular culture. His songs “The Times They Are a-Changin” and “Blowin’ in the Wind” became anthems of the anti-war and civil rights movement.
