Who is Tory Lanez?
Tory Lanez is a famous Canadian rapper, singer, and record producer. His birth name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, but he is professionally known as Tory Lanez.
He rose to fame after releasing the mixtape Conflicts of My Soul: The 416 Story in 2013. In 2015, he struck a contract with Mad Love Records. He dropped his first studio album, I Told You, a year later. It included hit singles like Luv and Say It. Both tracks ranked on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2018, he dropped his second and third albums; Memories Don’t Die and Love Me Now. The following year, he released his fourth album Chixtape 5. The album ranked no. 2 on the Billboard 200 soon after its release.
As a result, Lanez became more popular than before. His fifth studio album, Daystar, was released in 2020. He was nominated for the Grammys in 2016 for his song Luv.
Tory Lanez Early Life
He was born on July 27, 1992, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. After some time, he and his family moved to Miami, Florida. He was inclined towards music from a very young age and started singing at 17.
Unlike many other artists, Lanez never received any vocal training. He was a gifted rapper from the beginning.
His journey as a rapper began in 2009, when he dropped his first mixtape, T.L. 2 T.O. At this time, he lived in Florida and directed some of his music videos. He gained a good amount of attention by sharing those videos on YouTube.
One of his free-styling videos caught the attention of Sean Kingston. In 2010, Kingston contacted Lanez and allowed him to perform live on stage. Lanez released multiple mixtapes the same year, including One Verse One Hearse, Just Landed, and others.
The following year, he signed a contract with Kingston’s Time is Money Entertainment. His mixtapes Chixtape, Mr Peterson, and Swavey were all released under the same record label. However, he left the record to work as an independent artist.
Lanez continued to release many other mixtapes before dropping his first studio album, I Told You, in 2016. The album Luv and Say It became a big hit and established Lanez’s career.
