About the Teen Wolf Series
MTV revived Teen Wolf as a TV series in 2011. The series diverges from the original movie in several significant ways, including a darker, edgier tone that is more focused on supernatural terror.
A greater emphasis on emotional drama and anguish and a continuously expanding lore of werewolves and other supernatural beings.
Scott McCall (Tyler Posey), a teenage lacrosse player at Beacon Hills High, is a social outsider in the series. Scott’s life is turned upside down when he gets bitten by a werewolf, transforming him into one of these mythological beasts.
He must learn to blend his perplexing new identity with his everyday adolescent existence.
The Storyline
Teen Wolf follows Scott McCall, a high school student in the fictitious California town of Beacon Hills.
Scott becomes the series’ eponymous adolescent werewolf after being bitten by an alpha werewolf the night before his sophomore year of high school, significantly altering his once-ordinary existence.
The bite compels him to reconcile his new identity with day-to-day adolescent life and eventually assist in protecting his community, which he discovers is a magnet for paranormal activity.
In the first episode of the series, Scott is introduced as an underachieving student who could be more popular and athletic. He lives with his estranged mother, Melissa, a Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital nurse.
As a werewolf, he gains enhanced physical talents and senses beyond an average human’s. Still, he must also suppress animalistic inclinations heightened by feelings of anger and full moons.
Characters
Stiles Stilinski (Dylan O’Brien), his closest friend; Allison Argent (Crystal Reed), his first girlfriend, who hails from a werewolf hunting family; and Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin), a mystery werewolf whose background is linked to the Argents.
Throughout the series, Scott works hard to keep his loved ones safe while maintaining the bonds and secrets he shares with everyone around him. There is a recurring undercurrent of “finding your place,” which is reflected in the werewolf pack mentality.
Lycanthropy represents puberty — disturbing physical changes, startling and difficult-to-control desires, and so on — while packs may represent both cults and gangs on the negative side and close-knit families and groups of friends on the good.
