Early Life

Von was born on August 9, 1994 to Taesha and Walter E. Benett. He has three siblings and six half-siblings from his father.

His mother raised him single-handedly as his father was mostly missing due to incarceration. His father died when Von was 11.

King Von faced jail charges for the first time when he was 16. He got arrested in 2014 again due to his link in a shooting, injuring two people and killing one. After his acquittal, he started focussing more on making music.

He was also a part of the street gang ‘Black Disciples.’

Music Career

King Von released his breakout single, ‘Crazy Story’ in 2018 under Lil Durk’s record label, Only the Family.

He appeared in his rapper-girlfriend, Asian Doll’s music video about ‘Grandson’ on Valentine’s Day 2019.

King Von encashed the success of ‘Crazy Story’ by releasing two more renditions of the song. He dropped ‘Crazy Story 2.0’ in May 2019 and ‘Crazy Story Pt. 3’ in September 2019.

The music video for ‘Crazy Story 2.0’ came out in May 2021, and on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, it peaked at number four.

After releasing singles titled ‘Like That’ and ‘What It’s Like,’ in 2019, he released a mixtape titled ‘Grandson, Vol. 1.’ Lil Durk was a featured artist on some songs from the album. The album, on its release, debuted at number 27 on the Hip Hop/R&B chart and number 75 on the Billboard 200.

King Von released more singles and a mixtape in 2019. His second mixtape from 2019, titled ‘Levon James’ peaked at number 63 on the Billboard 200.

After a couple of more singles and music videos later, King Von released his debut studio album in 2020. It was titled ‘Welcome to O’Block.’ The album featured 16 tracks, including ‘The Code,’ where Von collaborated with Polo G.

As a tribute to King Von, Lil Durk released his album called ‘The Voice’ in December 2020. King Von appears on the album cover.

His second album, ‘What It Means to Be King,’ was released posthumously on March 4, 2022.

Death

Von was involved in a fight with Quando Rondo’s crew outside a hookah lounge in Atlanta. During the altercation, he got shot several times.

Although transported to the hospital, he was in a critical situation and didn’t make it through. He breathed his last on November 7, 2020. He was only 26 years old at the time of his death.

During the fight, two people were reported dead and six injured. Timothy Leeks, a 22-year-old rapper,’ was identified as the suspect in Von’s murder.

King Von received a burial on November 14, 2020, in Chicago, Illinois.

Legacy

Von received a mention in the ‘In Memoriam’ montage at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
