Onfroy spent most of his early years in Lauderhill, living with his grandmother Collette Jones. He attended Piper High School but dropped out in his 10th grade. The late rapper stated that he suffered depression in high school.

He also attended Margate Middle School but was expelled following several physical arguments. XXXTentacion’s attentiveness to music began after being convinced by his aunt to belong to the school choir and church choir. 

However, he was also expelled from the school choir as a result of his attack on a student. He soon began listening to rap, nu-metal, and hard rock and learned the guitar and piano.

Onfroy’s musical career began officially after the release of his song “News/Flock” written during his time in juvenile detention in June 2013. After his release from the detention center, he linked up again with Goulbourne(His fellow detainee while in detention). Onfroy eventually purchased a microphone and began recording his songs.

After the rapper took on the nickname XXXTentacion, his first non-deleted song “Vice City” was uploaded on SoundCloud. The singer talking about his choice of leaving behind a life of crime to face the music stated that he felt like music was a better way to let out his feelings, and his ex-girlfriend Geneva Ayala helped him come to this realization. 

He later went on to join Ski Mask the Slump God’s group “Very Rare” but broke off to start his own. 

His formal EP “The Fall” was released on November 21, 2014. He went further to collaborate with Ski Mask the Slump God to release Members Only Vol 1.

He uploaded his original version of “Look at Me” on SoundCloud. The track was uploaded to the SoundCloud of Rojas, the song’s co-producer.

In 2016, the rapper left his job as a call center operator because of the massive growth of his musical career. In the same year, he was charged and arrested for robbery. 

Following his release from prison in 2017, “Look at Me” gained resistance, and was at number 34 on US Billboard Hot 100. This led to him attaining much popularity and releasing three other songs on SoundCloud in April 2017. 

On April 28, 2017, Onfroy announced that he would be going on his first nationwide tour titled “The Revenge.”

The tour would end up being canceled due to a number of mismanagement and physical altercations.

In October 2017, the rapper announced that he was retiring due to his negativities and backlash but later said he would make music again if Ski Mask the Slump God would return to being his friend.

On June 18, 2018, two armed men shot the rapper numerous times after they stole his Louis Vuitton bag containing $50,000. XXXTentacion was rushed to and pronounced dead at Browsed Health North hospital. He is survived by one child named Gekyume Onfroy.
