Clash Royale is also themed after a medieval fantasy world, complete with a set of common characters with varying levels of power and defense.

The game is free to play, with online multiplayer. The mobile game was released in March 2016. The game is available on multiple platforms, including Android and IOS.

The game was developed by SuperCell and reached a revenue of a whopping 1 billion dollars within a year.

And within 3 years of its initial run, it brought revenue of 2.5 Billion dollars. The game is a mixture of tower defense, collectible cards, and an online battle arena.

Gameplay and Premise

As mentioned earlier, the game incorporates Clash of Clans elements and brings in tower defense gameplay. There is both
1 vs 1 & 2 vs 2 player configurations that span within a time limit of 3 minutes.

Each player has three towers each, one on either side and the top tower in the middle. The player has to use character cards he has collected and send them to demolish the castles.

But the castles will have their own defenses, trying to beat out the character cards. If the character cards defeat the castle, they work towards the next one.

Thus they have to destroy the castles within a 3-minute time frame. However, if both players are on equal footing within the end of this time frame, additional two-minute overtime is provided.

Arenas of Clash Royale

The player who defeats most of the opponent’s towers wins. There are 15 arenas within the game, such as

As the name sounds, these arenas are named after the special characters and events of the clash of clans game.

Cards of Clash Royale

Cards within the clash royale game are divided into three – Common, Rare, and Epic.

The total number of cards during the initial run was 42, divided into 14 of three types. Now it has gone up to a total of 107 cards and a new type called Legendary.

The use of these cards in the game depends upon the elixir points each player is alloted and his strategy. According to the types of cards, they drain the elixir from each opponent in ascending order.

As the player scores more points, the faster his elixir collector fills, thereby getting him the chance to bring out better cards against his opponent.

Awards and Accolades

Clash Royale has won numerous awards and accolades. The popular game review sites such as Touch Arcade and Metacritic gave it four stars out of 5 and 86/100, respectively.

It won Google Play’s best game award in 2016,
British Academy Games Awards in 2017, and
Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards in 2020.

Clash Royale has also been nominated for The Game Awards, Game Developer Choice Awards, etc.
