Premise

The idea of the series came out of Dan Levy’s curiosity about the reactions of the wealthy American families, as depicted on reality shows, after losing their entire wealth. Dan developed the series with his father.

The story follows the Rose family, whose business, Rose Video, is embezzled by their business manager, and the family ends up losing all their wealth. They relocated to Schitt’s Creek’s small town, which they once purchased.

The Rose family starts living in a motel in Schitt’s Creek. Their interactions with other town residents and how they manage their lives without wealth form the storyline of Schitt’s Creek.

For its initial seasons, the show received limited popularity. After its third season, its popularity grew manifold after it appeared on the streaming platform Netflix.

The critics praised Schitt’s Creek for its writing, acting, and humor. The series managed to amass a cult following.
