Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham and follows the shenanigans of a crime gang called Peaky Blinders after the First World War. An actual urban youth gang active in Birmingham from the 1880s to 1910s is the inspiration behind the fictional Peaky Blinders in the series.

The story of Peaky Blinders revolves around the criminal gang of the same name headed by Tommy Shelby, portrayed by Cillian Murphy. A detective chief inspector named Major Chester Campbell, played by Sam Neill, is commissioned by Winston Churchill to rid the city of criminal gangs.

Season one focuses on how the Peaky Blinders devise a plan to take over the betting pitches of the Worcester Races. In contrast, the second season showcases how the Peaky Blinders expand their gang and maintain a stronghold in Birmingham.
