PLOT:
The series revolves around Piper Chapman, a woman in her thirties residing in New York City and sentenced to 15 months in Litchfield Penitentiary, a women’s federal prison in New York.
Piper Chapman was charged with transporting a suitcase full of drugs to her girlfriend, Alex Vause. The offense had taken place ten years before the start of the series.
The unexpected predicament affects her relationship with her loved ones. She reunites with Alex Vause in prison. The series exposes the corruption, overcrowding, racial discrimination, and guard brutality affecting prisoners’ health, well-being, and safety.

OITNB began airing on broadcast television in New Zealand. It premiered on showcase on October 9, 2013, with its second and third seasons on July 16, 2014, and June 11, 2015.
The first season began airing in the UK on Sony Channel on April 19, 2017, and had been circulating in Ireland since January 15, 2018.
In April 2019, it was revealed that a cybercriminal had stolen the first ten episodes of season 5.
The series got more viewers and hours viewed in its first week than House of Cards and Arrested Development. Netflix commended the show’s success in October 2013.
As stated in February 2016, Orange Is The New Black has remained the most watched original series on Netflix.

Throughout its run, the show was widely applauded. It was particularly commended for humanizing prisoners and for its impression of sexuality, body type, gender, and race.
The first season has a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The second season received critical acclaim with a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I’m Metacritic, and the third season also received critical acclaim and a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In 2019, OITNB was ranked 58th on the Guardian’s list of the 100 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century. It has received 16 Emmy Award nominations and four wins.
Its first season received 12 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Comedy Series, etc.
