Legacies is a fantasy drama series running on The CW since October 2018. Currently airing its final season, the series is a spin-off of The Originals and has characters from The Originals and The Vampire Diaries.
‘Legacies’ is currently in its fourth and final season, and Julie Plec has created Legacies. The series has aired 65 episodes to date and will air its finale on June 16, 2022.
The main cast of the series includes Danielle Rose Russell as Hope Mikaelson, Aria Shahghasemi as Landon Kirby, and Matt Davis as Alaric Saltzman, with Kaylee Bryant as Josie Saltzman, Jenny Boyd as Lizzie, and Quincy Fouse as MG.
Peyton Alex Smith played the character of werewolf Rafael for the first three seasons. He returned to the series as a special guest star in season four. The recurring roles of Kaleb, Jed, and Ethan, portrayed by Chris Lee, Ben Levin, and Leo Howard, respectively, were promoted to series regulars in season three.
‘Legacies’ follows the story of Hope Mikaelson, who is the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall. Hope is a tribrid, which means she is a vampire, werewolf, and a witch, having some powerful bloodline.
The story of Legacies begins two years after the events in The Originals series finale, and a teenage Hope attends the Salvatore School for the Young and the Gifted.
The Salvatore Boarding School is an institute for young supernaturals where they learn to control their powers and impulses.
‘Legacies’ is about the next generation of supernatural beings and how they overcome their shortcomings and control their abilities. It continues the legacy of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.
The story revolves around Hope Mikaelson, Alaric Saltzman’s ‘Gemini’ twins- Josie and Lizzie, newly-turned werewolf Rafael, the boy with a mysterious persona Landon Kirby, and a vampire high on energy, MG.
But will they be able to control their superpowers while maintaining their secret from the outside world? The series tries to answer just that. It shows how the teenagers come together most unexpectedly and unconventionally to help each other sail through a crisis.
The gang relies on ancient stories and folklore we have seen through Mystic Falls history to battle the several enemies they face.
Season one focuses on the Malivore Chapter and the Triad Chapter, with the Necromancer, Dragon Girl, Ryan Clarke, and Triad Industries as the main antagonists for the season.
The second season consists of primarily three chapters- the Memory Chapter, the Necromancer Chapter, and the Dark Josie Chapter. The Malivore, Ryan Clarke, Necromancer, Kai Parker, and Dark Josie act as the villains in season two.
For season three again, the storyline was divided into three chapters- the Resurrection Chapter, the Landon Chapter, and the Cleo Chapter. Along with the Necromancer and Alyssa Chang, supernatural creatures like gremlins, banshees, and leprechauns were this season’s antagonists.
Season four, the penultimate season of Legacies, features two chapters- the End of Malivote Chapter and the Humanity Chapter.
Although the story had a good storyline, it did not manage to replicate the success story of its predecessors. The Vampire Diaries and The Originals were able to build a far better fandom than Legacies could.
Like a lukewarm audience reception, the critic reviews for the series also ranged from mixed to average.
