Overview

The story of Gilmore Girls revolves around two primary characters- Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. Lorelai is a witty thirty-two-year-old mother of a teenage Rory.

The series also manages to establish Lorelai’s backstory. She is the daughter of wealthy parents, Emily and Richard, but she never liked her environment. Lorelai becomes pregnant at 16, delivers Rory, and moves to Stars Hollow, Connecticut, where she finds a maid’s job at the Independence Inn.

Lorelai and Rory have a very close-knit relationship; they are more like best friends than mother and daughter.

Following an incident involving the Gilmore family, the mother-daughter must attend Friday night dinners at the Gilmores. The mother-daughter interactions between Emily and Lorelai; and Lorelai and Rory form the series’ underlying theme.

Gilmore Girl also focuses on Lorelai and Rory’s romantic relationships and career aspirations. Apart from the Gilmore Girls, the series also focuses on the life of Rory’s best friend, Lane Kim.

The story also showcases the quirky people of Stars Hollow, with mini-plots like Rory’s school projects, problems at Lorelai’s inn, and festivals celebrated in the town.
