Becky G, born Rebecca Marie Gòmez, is an American actress and singer who came into the limelight in 2011 when she began to upload videos of herself performing covers of popular songs. Her genres are Hip hop, R&B, Pop, reggaeton, Latin, dance-pop, and pop-rap.
Becky G is currently in an affair with soccer player Sebastian Lletget. In October 2017, Becky suffered an attack from a fan during a tour with the girl group Fifth Harmony. She took to Snapchat to talk about the attack and revealed she was suffering from anxiety.
EARLY LIFE:
Born in Inglewood, California, Rebecca Marie Gòmez is the daughter of Alejandra and Francisco Gòmez. Although her grandparents were born and grew up in Mexico, Becky’s immediate family spent their lives in the United States.
At the age of nine, Becky’s family suffered a financial crisis that caused them to relocate to her grandparents’ garage. As a result, the singer took part-time jobs to support her family.
Gòmez attended a public school, but she was eventually homeschooled due to the constant bullying she received.
CAREER:
In 2008, Gòmez starred as Claudia Gòmez in the short film El Tux, as well as in the television film La estaciòn de la Calle Olvera. In 2009, she became part of the girl band G.L.A.M. before joining another girl band, B.C.G.
During this time, Becky began uploading her cover performances on YouTube. She worked on the cover of songs like “Otis,” “Lighters,” “Take Care,” etcetera, with the production duo The Jam.
Becky’s cover of “Otis” caught the interest of producer Dr. Luke who later scheduled a meeting with Becky and eventually signed her to his record label, Kemosabe Records.
In August, the singer released her first song titled” Problem,” which featured Will.i.am. Both Becky and Will.i.am recorded a music video for the song.
Gòmez appeared in the song by Cody Simpson, “Wish U Were Here,” in 2012. She worked on the “Ai Se Eu Te Pego” remix with Michel Telò.
Becky G released her official debut single “Becky from the Block,” a cover of Jennifer Lopez’s “Jenny from the Block,” on April 8, 2013. Afterward, on May 6, Gòmez released “Play It Again.”
ACCOLADES:
In 2020 and 2021, Becky G won the Favorite Female Artist- Latin award during the 2020 and 2021 American Music Awards.
For her songs “Sin Pijama,” “Mayores,” “Bubalu,” and “Ram Pam Pam,” she won the awards for Winning Songs at the ASCAP Latin Awards in 2019, 2020, and 2022.
The singer was also nominated for the Crossover Artist of the Year and Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year during the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
For “Mayores” and “Sin Pijama,” she won the Latin Publisher of the Year award at the 2019 and 2020 B.M.I. Latin Awards.
In 2019, “Cuando Te Besé” won Best Urban/Trap Collaboration award at the Gardel Awards.
The Latin Recording Academy honored Becky G with the Leading Ladies of Entertainment honors in 2018.
