Known by his stage name Mac Miller, Malcolm James McCormick was born on January 19, 1992. The American rapper and producer kicked off his career in Pittsburgh at the age of fifteen. His genres included Hip Pop and R&B.

EARLY LIFE AND CAREER:

Born on January 19, 1992, in Pittsburgh, to photographer Karen Meyers and architect Mark McCormick, Mac Miller grew up with an older brother named Miller. His father is Christian, and his mother, a Jew.

By age six, Mac Miller could already play the piano, drums, bass, and guitar. He began rapping in high school at the age of fourteen.

In 2007 at the age, Miller released his first mixtape, But My Mackin’ Ain’t Easy. This was followed by releasing two more mixtapes in 2009: The High Life and The Jukebox: Prelude to Class Clown.

In July 2010, Mac Miller was signed to Rostrum Records. The mixtape K.I.D.S. was released afterward in August 2010. Soon after, another mixtape Best Day Ever, was released in March 2011.

The mixtape’s single titled “Donald Trump” became Miller’s first song to hit the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 75. The single also received platinum certification from the R.I.A.A.

On November 8, 2011, Miller released Blue Slide Park, his debut studio album. The songs from the album “Frick Park Market,” “Party on Fifth Ave,” and “Smile Back” charted on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching numbers 55, 60, and 64, respectively. The album sold about 144,000 copies in its first week of the sale.

Blue Slide Park received a gold certification in Canada and the U.S.

On June 18, 2013, ‘Watching Movies With The Sound Off’ was released. The album received positive reviews while debuting on the Billboard 200 at No. 3 and sold 102,000 copies during its first week of release.

On September 20, 2013, the mayor of Pittsburgh, Luke Ravenstahl, awarded Miller with a Key to the City, with the date declared “Mac Miller Day.”

Miller collaborated with Vince Staples for the production of the mixtape Stolen Youth. This was followed by the release of Delusional Thomas on October 31, 2013.

By January 2014, Miller’s contract with Rostrum Records had expired, and the rapper had to part ways with the label. After this, he released his tenth mixtape titled Faces.

After the expiration of Miller’s contract with Rostrum Records, the rapper signed with Warner Bros. Records and released G.O.:OD AM on September 18, 2015. The major debut label album peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

The album and its hit single “Weekend” received gold and platinum certification from the R.I.A.A.

After G.O.:OD AM, Miller released a fourth studio album titled The Divine Feminine in a bid to explore love. The album received numerous positive appraisals, charting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

On August 3, 2018, Miller released his fifth studio album, Swimming, which charted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

DEATH:

Mac Miller was found unconscious by his Assistant in his Studio City home on September 7, 2018. The rapper was certified dead on the scene. It was eventually discovered that Miller passed away from an accidental drug overdose.

After his death, Miller’s single “Self Care” climbed to No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100. During the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, the album Swimming was nominated for Best Rap Album.
